The Global Diary
I took part in the Global Diary project, whose core idea is the following: You send them a picture. They will comment on your photo with another image. In this way a ‘global’ dialogue occurs. Below on the right hand side is my participation. In the left their ‘answer’. Click on the pic and you will be forwarded to the Global Diary project.

Perchè amo la fotografia?
My contribution to a current Leica competition. A small excerpt of the text:  Perchè amo la fotografia?

A mini-exploration of the Italian cuisine. Excerpt of an photoessay I shot for Cafe Babel : Geographically Italy is divided into two worlds: the ‘Terroni’ from the south and the the ‘Polentoni’ from the north.     While the terroni are famous for the natural taste of homely sun-spoiled fruits and vegetables, Polentonian northern cuisine satisfies with its richness in...

Ithaca
When you start on your journey to Ithaca, then pray that the road is long, full of adventure, full of knowledge. Do not fear the Lestrygonians and the Cyclopes and the angry Poseidon. You will never meet such as these on your path, if your thoughts remain lofty, if a fine emotion touches your body and your spirit. You will never meet the Lestrygonians, the Cyclopes and the fierce Poseidon, if...

It seems that youth sometimes just needs a wake up...
My favorite quote of the week:  One of the emerging ideas that prompted out in organizing such a project was our conception that the world does not lack talents, but when it comes to showing and sharing those talents, they remain hidden most of the time . By bringing together a close group of young people, we enhance the participants to freely and openly express themselves, putting their...

Who are your Heros?
This is a short clip of a interview project I worked on 2 years ago asking the same questions to young people from all over the world. Raphael Fellmer, interviewed above has since started a NGO aiming to bring an ecologic revolution and is blogging about his experience travelling the world moneyless. Here he is sharing the people that have inspired him. Who are your heros?

Interview for Abduzeedo
I got interviewed for my favorite online mag Abduzeedo. You can find the article here http://abduzeedo.com/interview-photographer-nikolas-konstantin.  It is officially insane how many people digged the article on twitter, making it one of abduzeedo’s most visited. If you want to see what people think of it:  http://twitter.com/search?q=nikolas%20konstantin

She had more then the 5 senses
(image:Yaya; Greece 2009) She had more then the 5 senses  she knew more then books could teach  and raised everyone she touched just a little bit higher  and all around her there was a natural sense  as though she sensed what the stars say what the birds say  what the wind and the clouds say  a sensual soul and self that African sense  -Gil Scott-Heron-

Libation
I offer to this ground, this gin. I imagine an old man crying here, out of the sight of the overseer. He pushes his tongue through a holewhere his tooth would be, if he were whole. It aches in that space where his tooth would be, where his land would be, his house, his wife, his son, his beautiful daughter. He wipes sorrow from his face, and puts his thirsty finger to his thirsty tongue, and...

Our Generation: Connecting Cables, Crossing...
In 1972 South African Onkgoposte Tiro, young man and extraordinary scholar, got expelled by his university for openly critizizing the governments racial policies. In the face the screaming injustice in front of his eyes Tiro declared :  “I prefer to die for an idea that will live on, than to life for an idea that is meant to die.” Tiro got killed by a letter bomb in the age of 28....

Life's precious moments: Vincent Moon and...
A few years ago a young frenchman under the self-declared name of Vincent Moon made himself on the road to discover a new way of capturing music. Vincent was on a quest to find a means to capture the freedom and rough spirit of life concerts. His journey found its destination in the development of “TAKE AWAY SHOWS”: What are TAKE AWAY SHOWS? They are freely filmed concerts in...

Moments of Beauty
Some photos are just like mentors, who with a firm glance and compassionate tone look down on you and teach you on the inherent beauty of life. Here we have 3 of those masters that can find a bird in all facets of everyday life an make it sing.    Scott Schuman - The Sartorialist  Smilla Dankert - Anders Anziehen Vivian Maier - Her discovered work

The capacity of this generation
There are nights where I am up well past 3am, thinking about the future. I’m never concerned about the capacity of this generation to create profound change. We created Facebook. We helped elect a President. I’m concerned about whether all of us as citizen activists can team up to do something even bigger! Can activists worldwide team up and end extreme global poverty? Can we create...

Belgium United: On Assignment for Cafebabel
